20th September 2019, the kickoff meeting of the Sino-Swiss Clean Air Project was held in the Institute of Earth Environment, CAS (IEECAS). Swiss ambassador Bernadino Regazzoni, with accompany of Ms. Maria Cristina Guerrini Regazzoni and counsellor Felix Fellmann, attended the meeting and delivered an opening address. Ambassador Bernadino Regazzoni expressed his appreciation of the efforts China has made on tacking air pollution. Other participants include Dr. Andre Prevot and Dr. Markus Furgur from Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) Prof. Jing Wang from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH), Deputy Division Chief of Xi’an Ecology and Environment Bureau, Prof.Junji Cao and Dr. Xuefeng Yu from IEECAS. Dr. Xuefeng Yu delivered welcome speech on behalf of the IEECAS. Prof. Junji Cao, Dr. Andre Prevot and Prof. Jing Wang gave presentations about the project in the meeting. 

This project is funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. IEECAS closely collaborated with PSI in this project. By utilizing the cutting-edge online source apportionment technology, the project will be able to provide effective scientific support for policy making, therefore to improve air quality in China. In addition, the participants will share experience of this project with other countries which are facing similar environmental issues. 

After the meeting, ambassador visited the Key Lab of Aerosol Chemistry and Physics, IEECAS as well as the Xi’an monitoring station for further understanding of this project and process. Before leaving Xi’an, ambassador Bernadino Regazzoni extended his good wish to this collaboration and the project.
