On May 16th 2015,  ‘The 11th Public Science Day and 2015 Shaanxi Science and Technology Week ’ was held in Key Laboratory of Aerosol Chemistry and Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The visitors were students from high school and university, groups from social organizations, also there were social folks who came to visit with their wife and children. They came to the laboratory and let the children to have a brief understand of PM2.5. There were 15 students and researchers of KLACP volunteered to prepare and carry out the event.

    Academician Zhisheng An explained the scientific spirit to the visitors and asked the details of them, such as their grade, school and location of their school, etc., and encouraged them to find and develop their interest. Deputy Director of IEECAS Junji Cao emphasized the positive role of encourage and guideline by seniors in the growth of young people, and then he introduced Situations of Institute of Earth Environment, State Key Laboratory of Loess and Quaternary Geology, and Key Laboratory of Aerosol Chemistry and Physics.

    This event were separated into four parts: to discovery the mystery of PM2.5 by science video; to visit each laboratory and explain the details; science theme ‘photocatalytic behind the fog’; science theme ‘Where should you stay when haze comes’.

    Volunteers and researchers were circulating to explain and answer questions to the visitors, and showed each laboratory, exhibition of indoor air pollution, poster exhibition, explanation of online monitoring instruments, exhibition of photocatalytic products, experiment of photocatalysis to remove the pollutant from ambition and water. These exhibitions and experiments made the public understand how to monitor, analyze and control the particles deeply. Some of the students showed great interest when they saw photocatalytic experiments. This event makes the public truly experience science, cultures their scientific spirit and lets the public understand scientific research. Also it is a good scientific popularization for the combination of scientific products and modern urban life. This scientific event has completed successfully, however, the scientific popularization is still on the way. We are continuing focus on improving the effect of the popularization work.
