On Nov 22-27 2010, ‘The 7th Cross-Strait Aerosol Technology Seminar and the 2nd Air Pollution Technology SeminarThe 7th Cross-Strait Aerosol Technology Seminar and the 2nd Air Pollution Technology Seminar’ was held in Taipei and Kaohsiung. This seminar was held by Aerosol Professional Committee of Chinese Society of Particles, China Branch of International Society of Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) and Taiwan Aerosol Society. There were about 100 participants who came from research institutes, universities and enterprises across the Taiwan Strait attended the seminar, among them about 50 participants were from the PRC. Dr. Xinggen Zhang, Director of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Chinese Academy of Sciences attended this seminar and gave a speech.

Prof. Nenghui Lin of Central University Institute of Atmospheric Physics was invited to give a speech named ‘Overview of the Long-range Transport of Asian Pollutants to Taiwan: Form dust to biomass burning aerosol’. Dr. Junji Cao of Institute of Earth Environment gave a speech ‘Black Carbon and Its Environmental Effects’ on invitation. There were also 46 academic reports and 22 poster exhibitions arranged in this seminar. The topics included Conference topics include atmospheric aerosols and air quality, physical and chemical characteristics of atmospheric aerosol analysis, climatic and environmental effects of aerosols, aerosol instrument design and development, nano-aerosol generation and measurement and monitoring of bioaerosols.

The success of this seminar deepens the communication and cooperation of aerosol technology between two sides of cross-strait. It also helps abreast of international developments in atmospheric research, and expends the influence of Chinese academy in aerosol research field. In addition, it promotes the growth of young scientists in the field.
