On August 13 – 16, the 8th Cross-Strait Aerosol Technology Seminar and the 3rd Air Pollution Technology Seminar was held in Xi’an, Shaanxi grandly. This seminar was joint held by Institute of Earth Environment, China
Academy of Science (IEECAS), Aerosol Professional Committee of China Society of Particles, China Branch of Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA), Institute of Atmospheric Physics. This seminar was also supported by HongKong, Macao and Taiwan Office of China Academy of Science and National Natural Science Foundation. There were about 100 participants attended the seminar and they came from institutes, universities and enterprise of Taiwan and PRC, and 60 of them were from Taiwan. The seminar followed the traditions of the Cross-Strait Aerosol Technology Seminar which provided a communicated platform for researchers and educators who were working at aerosol, air quality, atmospheric chemistry and environmental pollution. This seminar promoted the communication cross the strait.
Prof. Zhaolin Gu gave a speech which named ‘Numerical Simulation Research of Coarse Layer Atmospheric Environment in Urban Area’ on invitation; Prof Zhijie Chen gave a report of ‘Deposition and Generation of Particles in Respiratory System’; Dr .Judith C. Chow of America Desert Institute was invited to give a report named ‘New Approaches in Multi-pollutant Air Quality Management ’; Prof. Daizhou Zhang of Japan Prefectural University of Kumamoto gave a invited report named ‘Primary Data on the Dispersal of Bacteria with Asian Dust’. In addition, there were 50 academic reports scheduled by the seminar, which included analysis of physics and chemical characteristics of aerosol, instrument analysis of aerosol and polluted atmosphere, climate change and environmental effect of aerosol, atmospheric pollution control and human body health technology of aerosol.
The Cross-Strait Aerosol Technology Seminar has become an important platform for communication between Taiwan and PRC scientists, and it has become a significant active form for the post-graduate students to study together. The success of this seminar has enhanced the understanding and co-operation between Taiwan and PRC. It summarized the latest achievement in aerosol field in China, advanced the new application and promoted the development in both two sides of the Strait.
